Beef Rendang - Indonesian beef curry
Beef Rendang (one of the most popular Indonesian dish) made easy. My sister in law cooked a fantastic Indonesian feast in 2009 and shared with me the secret to her delicious beef rendang. This dish is so easy to make, it is mind blowingly good, and it'll definitely make you look like a great cook in front of your guests.
Ingredients
1/2 kg of beef (casserole cut)
1 packet of Indofood rendang seasoning mix*
1 packet of bamboe rendang seasoning mix*
*You can get the beef rendang seasoning mix from a local Indonesian / Chinese grocery stores. If you can't get both brands, just use two packets of the same brand.
300ml of coconut milk
Water
1 packet of Indofood rendang seasoning mix*
1 packet of bamboe rendang seasoning mix*
*You can get the beef rendang seasoning mix from a local Indonesian / Chinese grocery stores. If you can't get both brands, just use two packets of the same brand.
300ml of coconut milk
Water
Cooking method
Put the beef in a medium sized pot and pour boiled water until the meat pieces are just covered. Don't pour too much water as you will have to reduce it to a thick sauce base later. Boil beef for half an hour in medium heat. Then, stir in the 2 packets of seasoning mix well. Leave it to boil for another half an hour in low heat. Then pour in the coconut milk and stir well. Leave to boil on low heat, stir the mixture every ten minutes until the sauce thickens (this may take an hour). The sauce should be very thick and gooey, if yours is still too liquid, leave it to boil on low heat and stir regularly until it becomes thick, don't worry it just needs time.
